Summer: Day 78. Gross.

Summer: Day 78. Gross.

This morning, I woke up to find this in my yard.

As a result of the Central Texas fires, the drought, and the general Old Testamenteque vibe around here, we are being overtaken by animals. Foxes, possums, racoons, skunks…and allegedly, snakes. They’re thirsty, they’re hungry, and they’re everywhere.

So here’s the thing. 1.) I’m a city person at heart, and I’m not all that into wild animals. 2.) This is mainly because I’m terrified of wild animals. 3.) I’m still experiencing PTSD from my last close-up encounter with wild animals  4.) I’m especially petrified/terrified/traumatized by snakes, and so for all of these reasons and more, 5.) I’m currently and completely scared of the outside.

I’ve seen at least one crazy lunatic fox in my yard every day for at least a week.

At night, you can hear legions of these animals out and about…partying…having raves under the house, on the front porch…date raping, attacking and/or killing each other, etc.

I’m having a hard time with all this behavior.

  1. I’m not only terrified by this image, but I now know that it’s what I’ll find in the woods behind my condo. I heard what can only be described as a fox family gang bang the other night and my indoor cats and husband heard NONE of it as I rocked back and forth and calmly wept. Now I have to go back there and find it…

  2. We moved to New Zealand in 1993. There are no snakes here. I know. How great is that? But walking through high grass? Near water? Still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. You can take the boy out of Oklahoma but… As to your dilemma, can we suggest staying in-doors until winter, relying on Pizza Hut and UPS? That or borrow Beyonce, put her on wheels, and ALWAYS let her lead.

I don’t even know what that is. Nor do I want to. Blech!
We are seeing more rat/rodent/varmint evidence around here, too.
I am in the city – why are there varmints here? They should need some kind of visa.
