Oh, I wondered why you were asking on Twitter. I voted spiral stairs, but I like a good escalator, too. The one in the lobby of the Waldorf is my favorite. It was the first escalator to have a huge impact on me. I also love the one that descends into Harrod’s food hall.
Floors five and six (or was it four and five?) at the flagship Macy’s have wooden escalators! Discovered them whilst trying to escape the Black Friday crowds.
Well…here’s the thing. I have an irrational fear of staircases – especially spiral ones. Because when I was like 6 I feel down my grandmother’s basement steps. True story.
So I guess I’m going with the escalator (as long as it’s not one of those super narrow-steep-long ones – you know like in Adam’s Morgan in DC…cause those ones also freak me out).
