1 little boy + 1 giant left molar pushing though + 1 giant right molar pushing through + 2 earaches + 103 fever + 2 clueless parents = 4,873 massive fits of crying misery
Does anyone have any ideas, tips, remedies or drugs* to add to the equation?
i might suggest you get away from those train tracks?sorry about all the misery. maybe a shot of bourbon (for all three of you) would help take the edge off?
So sorry. This is the hardest part of teething. My kids always got a fever and acid poo…so we got diaper rash and general "not feeling well" on top of it all. We just do Tylenol (Childrens Motrin lasts a long time..) and grit our teeth… I also used to let the kids chew on otter pops (not opened). It would take them awhile to gnaw though the plastic… that and chewing on Barbie legs (soft and can reach the back….).
I used Hyland's Teething Tablets. I'm not sure if they worked, but it made me feel better to know I was doing something about it. Icy, cold, wet washcloths to chew on. Tom always thought that my nipple was a good teether, until I made him go airborne one time. Well, nearly.I hope it passes quickly. It's always something, isn't it? Diaper rash, teething, or bellyache, as my parents called it. As in, "Awww, poor little Hadders gotta bellyache" and I would be like, "Is it the same bellyache that she's had since she was BORN!!"
We always do a combo of Baby Oragel Nighttime (it has extra meds in it) and ice chips. It makes a friggin mess, but she likes chewing ice and coupled with the topical, it seems to help A LOT.
Teething tablets, motrin, a vibrating teether. One of my friends said that the only thing that helped her kid was a cold carrot that he could chew on but I was always afraid hailey might chew off a giant piece and choke.Much like a broken heart, the only true cure is time. And booze.
I am signed up to babysit for a weekend later this year for my niece…I now will check to see if she is teething before I confirm!Kisses and peace for the Hurricane; booze and quiet for you and HcQ!
Take him to the pediatric dentist and have them removed. He'll get another set when he's older and capable of tolerating the good drugs. Mmmmmm…… methadone.Worked for my kids.
As a mom whose two boys ALWAYS got ear infections with their teeth, I would suggest a decongestant and Ibuprofin(preferred) or Tylenol. The dr. also said that we could give Tylenol followed 2 hours by Ibuprofin followed 2 hours by Tylenol. It all depends on how much pain you are all in and what your medicinal preferences are. I can tell you that none of us felt very good or acted very good without sleep! My kids couldn't tolerate the orajel or the cold…
To go along with what laurie said,My priest once told me:Pour a shot glass of bourbon. Dip your finger in it and rub it on the kid's gums, then drink the rest for yourself. Never tried it, but Orajel and Tylenol worked for Twinkle. I'm sure the shot for yourself would also help.
4 kids, 4 different experiences. But here's what's worked for us: Benadryl (don't bother with rubbing it on the gums — just give him a dose, it's totally safe) + ibuprofen + Hyland's teething tabs. When he's awake take a wet washcloth and put it in the freezer for an hour. Then, let him walk around chewing on it. In a few weeks, this will all be a bad memory (oh and the circles under your eyes will be more pronounced…)
Tylenol with codeine …with three kids, I've been there, done that a thousand times, and the good news is ONE day this will be history. For now, that doesn't help in the least, but oh, how I remember (and feel) your pain!
What Jenny said. 'Cause I can so manage the fever and ear infection part. (If I couldn't I'd be one sucky nurse!!) But the teething part is what got me until Jenny saved me.Oh, and I've got some good booze at my house. Come on over. Bring the Hurricane. Good times!
I'm Laura Mayes, a writer and a founder of Kirtsy. Some things I've written have won an Emmy. Other things are in Kirtsy Takes a Bow. And a whole lot of others are right here where you've landed. Welcome. Any questions?
Q: How do you make kids like vegetables? A: You plant a garden and have the kids grow the vegetables themselves. This was the answer someone gave me. This completely did not work. In March, we started this little backyard garden. Squash, early pumpkins, okra, cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers. I’ve tried all of these things [...]
And laugh we did on Wednesday night. I love this photo. Me and Victor (Jenny‘s husband) laughing along with 350 others as she did her reading in Austin at Book People… right after she found out she is #1 on the NYT Best Seller list. The whole evening was such a celebration! These are the things [...]
So as you may or may not know, I’m part of a team that puts on this conference every year called the Mom 2.0 Summit. It’s our fourth year, and this time it’s in Miami. Every year, the conference sort of takes on a life of its own…with different people involved (you can see the [...]
So I’m sitting here, trying to figure out how to be clever, and I just don’t have it in me this morning. I’m still spinning from the last 38 hours. So I’ll just tell you about them… You see, right now I’m living in a state of extremes. I don’t know if it’s timing, or star [...]

I have heard to rub benadril on the gums. You may want to check with the doctor on that to be sure.

Um… cloves? Aren't cloves good for toothache. Or is that just adult teeth. Bonjela? And a margherita for you.
Fruit Popsicles, and frozen washclothes.
Well I have seen all of my suggestions above (washcloth, popsicles, Orajel) maybe a beer or 2 for mom and dad?
Ditto on the frozen washcloths.
Our Doctor told us we could alternate giving Children's Tylenol & Children's Motrin every 3 hours to help with pain and/or Fever.

ice cream for everyone….

Yee-ow-ee Ouch! I remember those days. No remedies from me. Sounds like a train wreck, though.
frozen washcloth.(you can freeze it with juice, too)
All, These are extremely excellent ideas. I'm freezing the washcloth and pouring the whiskey right now. Aaaaah whiskey.

I've heard Hyland's Teething Pills (homeopathic) work well, but I've never tried them. So far, we've done okay with just Tylenol.
