So this morning, I was checking Twitter and started following Jill who had said something to me, and then I checked her site…and she had this fun little write up about “Glamping”... something I’d never heard of before. Basically, it’s camping…only totally fancy, with marble spa baths, flat screen TVs, butlers, chefs, dog walkers (there aren’t really dog walkers…that would be ridiculous.)
Actually, I’m not sure how this is like camping at all. Because, unlike camping, this is actually temping. Over the top? Potentially ridiculous? I am so in!
So. I read more on it at “Go Glamping” … “the leading luxury camping directory where you will find yurts, tipis, safari tents, airstream caravans,” andandandandand, etc. And apparently this is a really big thing in the UK. But according to Go Glamping, there are only 7 places to do this in the United States. And guess what? One of these places is only 15 minutes from my house. You can’t make this stuff up.
So now I’m on a mission. This summer, I’m going glamping. I’m putting it on my to-do this, and I’m going to make this happen. Sound good? Okay. Break. We’ll meet back here, and I’ll report what I find.

Ooooh, I LOVE this! I did some “glamping” this year at Yosemite. My boyfriend and I rented a yurt, and while we were definitely communing with nature, we also had satellite TV, a warm shower and a full kitchen after hiking all day! It was basically the best thing ever. I will totally check out other places to do it, thanks for the link
Ohh! I’m pretty sure I know someone who is friends with the owner of the one in Texas. I think it’s supposed to be really neat.
I have been dying to stay at the one in the Hill Country. There’s a great tree house down there, too. One day…

Laura,
I had to seek out through seek through a Google search or similar to find additional US glamping sites. I found one (sort of) near me in lower NY that I may seriously look into for our anniv. weekend.
