GENEVA, Switzerland (AP) — A global competition to name the new seven wonders of the world is attracting widespread interest, with more than 20 million people voting so far, organizers say. Candidates for the new list have been narrowed down to 21, including the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Taj Mahal and Peru’s Machu Picchu. The public can vote until July 6, 2007, by Internet or phone. The seven winners will be announced July 7 in Lisbon, Portugal.

I LOVE Stevie Wonder!Remember the days when they called the Astrodome the 8th Wonder of the World? Now we'll be lucky if they don't tear it down.I would definitely vote for the Statue of Liberty, the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids…hmmm, not sure what else.
I vote for the thing that's growing at the back of my fridge.That way I won't have to deal with it, because I'm sure it'll be protected or something.

Pyramids-Mexico and Egypt-the aliens won't be able to find their way back if we don't preserve them. I totally thought that several of the options already were the 7 wonders–like the pyramids, Taj Mahal, Great Wall.

I have serious concerns about how legitimate that 7 wonders website is. I looked all over and couldn't find anything about the largest fire hydrant in Texas.

Hee hee. Um, I don't see Stevie on the list. Where can I vote for him? Cuz I'd say he's at the top of my list too. And then I'd vote for the Colosseum in Rome and THEN the Statue of Liberty. But those are WAY behind Stevie Wonder.
How about Mitchell South Dakota's Corn Palace. How they keep the crows from eating that thing, I will never know. There is probably a deserving giant ball of twine out there too.If it has to have the name "wonder" in it then I vote for Wonder Bread. That stuff can last for months and never grow mold.
hahaha…i never thought i'd get to impart this kind of information. although, as a south dakotan, i feel it to be my duty.we keep a team of highly trained snipers in each of the magical towers armed with laser-sighted pellet guns. (that may not be entirely accurate).okay, so really they just let it go until they redo the design each year.as for the ball of twine…that's a hotly debated issue between kansas and minnesota.
