A couple of weekends ago, we went to my Mother-in-law’s house in Dallas, and I spent some time taking photos of her ginormous backyard. It’s really spectacular. The thing is, I’m not a smart enough photographer to capture how cool it looks as an entire garden. I could only get the details that make up the whole.
I’m just the opposite in life. I usually miss a lot of the cool stuff because I’m focusing too much on the big-picture overarching how-the-hell-are-we-gonna-get-there stuff. I forget to pay attention to the beauty along the path. But it’s all around.

It's a great thought. It seems that if we pay more attention to those little things along the road we walk, instead of careening to reach what we think are our goals, we begin to experience more of life. Life evolves into something greater than we would have imagined. We simply can't plan for those unexpected detours. I wish I knew how many times I've missed an experience with my children or wife because I had my eye on the "ball". Life is too short, and too full of possibilities to be so focused on the big picture. Thanks for the thoughts that put these thought in my head.
forgot my final thought (which probably would have been better than leaving such a long response):Life is out there. I want to experience more of it.

What a beautiful detail! I think things like this show that it's important to have balance. You look at the big things in life, and the small things in a lens? Okay. That's not so bad =)
