Honestly, I'am voiceless. The Shawshank Redemption is marvelous. I'am a young film fanatic, in fact, this movie is realised whenI was very young, and thus I'am more used to movies with marvellous special effects, edge-of-your-seat action, et cetera. This movie has no of that, and still, it appeals so closely . Way Frank Darabont uses the narration of Red to drive on the story, the beauty of the music utilized (note the mouth harp used merely before Red finding the letter close to the end). The whole film, from start to end, from actions to music, is a beacon of hope, judgement, and repurchase. The cast is mastered, Morgan Freeman(Red) actually brings about a refreshing feel to the film, and that is exactly what the film is, what a movie should be. Highly recommended for every and everyone.

Because it’s so much easier to talk about Reese and Ryan and America’s Next Top Model, and to get drunk on our stuff of choice, and to just say let them eat freaking cake. I mean, that’s pretty much what’s happening, right? Yep, that's pretty much what's happening. You hit the nail on the head. I'm somewhat of a political junkie and stomaching all of the snark and distractions and IT WAS HIM/HER/THEM is getting more and more difficult. Sadly, I don't think there's a "side" or a candidate above it. It's all become a game...one in which no one really wins. Nope, the revolution won't be pretty. *sigh*Great post!

I like when I discover that there are people who actually thinking out there! As someone who has worked on campaigns for all of my adult life, I really wonder sometimes if people know or understand or have attempted to understand or even researched issues and candidates -- because the media ain't giving you the unvarnished truth that is for sure...however, for thos who complanin that so much has been spent on campaigning well, I figure,3 billion sure isn't much to spend on deciding who will regulate what we eat, drink, watch, sleep on & under, brush our teeth with, how safe ALL products are, what medications we can take, how we invest our money, how energy efficient our cars/homes/offices are, how much we are taxed (never how little we are taxed!), how tough the sentencing is on those who abuse our children or break other laws, and of course the list goes on and on and on...and let's compare that 3 billion that has been spent on elections (and which is ALL privately donated money -- no federal funds, no taxpayer money used, no corporate money used -- it is ALL money from the people's own pocketbooks) to the BILLIONS that spent on helping us decide Big Mac or Whopper, Hunts or Heinz, Cialis or Viagra...There is truth and there are lies but it is up to you to decide...for the truth is always the truth.

I've said for years that our cultural attraction to celebrities, sports, and other entertainment is just a modern day form of the Roman's use of the collosseum - keeping the masses distracted...or something. Of course, this theory doesn't seem to stop me from my own complacency in that distraction, does it? Argh. I just end up disgusted with myself every time I start thinking about this. Good post, though...

man oh man gcq. the more i get to know you, the more i think you're my doppleganger (and i said as much over at mom-101 today). i HATE talking about politics because ultimately i just end up frustrated and annoyed with our powerlessness and how pointless it all seems. on almost all issues, logic gets thrown out the window because politics gets in the way. and it basically becomes a big, overblown reality show (a genre i categorically -- and snobbily -- don't enjoy but i don't judge people who do).politics and reality shows are both fueled by, as you so eloquently say, "snark, scare tactics, soundbites, agendas, ambitions, attacks, rhetoric, generalizations, simplifications, and really obnoxious pontifications that are always served with anything and everything branded serious."in the case of the tv entertainment variety, we're supposed to be appalled and keep watching, knowing it's all propelled by its own (absurd) power source. but in the case of politics, i think the premise is that our outrage is supposed to fuel our activism and our attempts to bring about the change we envision. instead it seems to me to be propelled by its own (absurd) power source that ebbs and flows of its own accord, regardless of our complicity or our outrage.ugh. see. you got me started and now i'm blathering. apologies. i'm done now.

Awesome post and I think it really hits home with most of the general population. I too despise what politics has become. I further despise what the media has helped do to politics and the country as a whole. So many of us have put our trust/faith in the people at the wheel without really analyzing and finding out if they really know what they are doing. With over 3 billion spent on these upcoming midterm elections, I am apalled that the money was wasted and not put to good use. Okay, I.must.stop. before.I.really lose it. Great Post.
