Happy Monday

Hi. First of all, we’re incredibly excited that our Dynamo won the MLS championship last night. It was quite a game. So a giant congrats go out to our favorite team!

Secondly, I like nice blogs. I always have. I try to always make sure this too is a nice blog. And by nice, I mean, not mean.

Cranky sometimes, yes. Snarky occasionally, of course. But not mean. That’s different. And that’s so not queso.

So in an effort to honor niceness and kind blogs everywhere, we’re joining in the Kind Blog movement. It’s a Chookooloonks initiative. Of course. Because she’s cool. And kind. And has initiative. So we’re in. We’re a Kind Blog. And we’re now officially designated as such. If only to remind me how valuable kindness is when I haven’t had enough sleep.

And speaking of that, it’s currently 7:45 a.m. and the Hurricane is still asleep. This has happened exactly, um, never. That’s right, zero times in almost 14 months. That’s 14 months of no sleep. Count ‘em.

Well, to be more accurate, he sleeps. But he’s just an incredibly early riser. And I really do not like to be. Mainly because I like to stay up late. That’s one reason that I’m cranky. (There are many others, that’s just one.) Jenny also recently talked about this and had about a billion comments from people who also aren’t sleeping. So, what that means to me, is A.) I’m not alone and B.) this isn’t going to change anytime soon. Because I think this morning is just a fluke. Although I’ll take a fluke anyday!

Is anyone else not getting enough sleep, and if so, do you have any tips? For sleeping more? For surviving on less? What?

    I never get enough sleep. I have been a bad sleeper my whole life. My tips?! Enjoy The Late Show! Get a job with flexible hours! And drink a glass or two of wine before bed! I love that Hurricane slept in! I sense a trend…!

    We found that, while Baby is a typical early riser, that if we give her a bottle, keep the lights low, and things quiet, that we can set her back in the crib (sometimes with a bit of fuss) and she'll go back to sleep for another 45 m – 1 hour. Consequently, I can go back to sleep for another 45 m – 1 hour! Woo-hoo!

    I suffer from lack of sleep as well. But I think, over time, the body naturally adjusts to less sleep. And my body's particular adjustment is to drink a lot of coffee.

    yay kind blogs! yay chookooloonks. yay blog con queso! but mostly: YAY HURRICANE!here are my thoughts about sleeping in:1) never ever ever mention to your young child(ren) that you are happy they slept in (or slept all night, if that's your particular anguish). it is a guarantee that they will not repeat.2) if your child starts sleeping in (or sleeping thru the night) consistently, do not discuss it with your sig. other, your parents, your blog, or the friends you regularly discuss parenting with. it is a guarantee that the streak will end.3) if your child starts sleeping in (or sleeping thru the night) and you go on a trip? the streak will end.4) if your child starts sleeping in (or sleeping thru the night) and he/she gets sick? the streak will end.5) it's good to do this: go to sleep early one night and say, out loud, that you are doing so because you just know your child is going to wake up early/during the night. often, this ensures they do not wake up early/during the night.6) some good news: when your child is around 4 years old, you can put a digital clock in his/her room, tape over the minutes (so only the hours are showing) and tell them that they can't wake you up before 7. or 8. or whatever is appropriate relative to their normal pattern. and believe it or not, it works.6a) time bending for fun and profit! on the weekends, you can set the clock back a little!good luck GcQ.

    Sleep. I miss sleep. I don't get nearly enough sleep. Our little one only likes to sleep in 3 or 4 hour stretches at night. I am longing for a night of 6 straight hours. Sleep…please come back.

    I love the idea of spreading the kindness but I can still read Go Fug Yourself, right?Because I NEED Go Fug Yourself.Also, it's ok that I called everybody "bitches" in my sleep deprivation post, right?Crap.Can I just be a kind-by-association blogger? Well-meaning but grumpy? Good-natured but kind of snarky?
