Sometimes I download photos from my camera and find random snapshots that Harry has taken. It’s interesting to see the world from smaller eyes. Eyes that are lower to the ground. And seeing everything. He wants a camera for his birthday. Oh Lord. Help us.
The people on the right side of this photo are my siblings. That’s me on the left. This is us circa 1981. And this weekend, 30 years later, we’re all at the same beach with all of our kids. Us plus five. Wouldn’t it be fun to re-enact this shot? I sorta doubt that’s going [...]
We went camping this weekend. I can now check that off the list. I have a lot of things to say about this adventure. But really, this photo should convey at least 1,000 words of it. To sum up: Camping is for the birds. Big birds, ready to party.
The beach in Normandy is very different from beaches around here. For starters, there is the incredibly poignant history. As you’re playing around, it’s impossible not to imagine what played out at this very spot less than 70 years ago. It’s also impossible to imagine how it happened as it did. Secondly, as opposed to [...]
Gabby and I at Mont St. Michel before we climbed up and in. I want to live there. For real. Only 41 people live there now, but I think I could hang as number 42. At least for a while. I’m not sure why I loved this place so much. Maybe because it would be [...]
This is what I’m looking at as I type. June and Olive and the greatest calendars ever. Honestly, I have no idea how Gabrielle gets anything done with all this cuteness all around all the time.
And we’ll be on a jet plane or two for most of the day. From Austin, to Chicago, to Paris, to Normandy. Plane, tram, plane, train. It’s going to be 22 hours of pure awesome travel. Heaven help us.
I'm Laura Mayes, a writer and a founder of Kirtsy. Some things I've written have won an Emmy. Other things are in Kirtsy Takes a Bow. And a whole lot of others are right here where you've landed. Welcome. Any questions?
Q: How do you make kids like vegetables? A: You plant a garden and have the kids grow the vegetables themselves. This was the answer someone gave me. This completely did not work. In March, we started this little backyard garden. Squash, early pumpkins, okra, cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers. I’ve tried all of these things [...]
And laugh we did on Wednesday night. I love this photo. Me and Victor (Jenny‘s husband) laughing along with 350 others as she did her reading in Austin at Book People… right after she found out she is #1 on the NYT Best Seller list. The whole evening was such a celebration! These are the things [...]
So as you may or may not know, I’m part of a team that puts on this conference every year called the Mom 2.0 Summit. It’s our fourth year, and this time it’s in Miami. Every year, the conference sort of takes on a life of its own…with different people involved (you can see the [...]
So I’m sitting here, trying to figure out how to be clever, and I just don’t have it in me this morning. I’m still spinning from the last 38 hours. So I’ll just tell you about them… You see, right now I’m living in a state of extremes. I don’t know if it’s timing, or star [...]
