It’s beginning to look a lot like summer around here. And my sink is filling up with the first signs.
However, the garden looks ridiculous and kind of pathetic. It’s growing like a bad trend although I have abandoned it so. And holy cow, the kale, it will not die…it’s overachieving, holding out and holding on. I’m going to pull all that out this weekend and make 80 pounds of final kale chips. Please come to my house to pick up piles of kale chips.
But the squash blossoms are blooming.
And there are like 12 kinds of peppers mixed in there between the crazy weeds. It’s a party. And I need to clean this place up. I also need to find 27 recipes that call for lots of peppers. It’s going to be a hot summer.
Amy’s has Cajeta ice cream again, so that’s happening. This summer, I’m going to learn how to make Cajeta. Oh yes I am.
The Boy Scouts voted for equality, and any vote for equality is a good vote. I’m not sure this is a sign of summer, but it’s definitely a good sign. Harry’s godfather The Padrino Ken and I talked talked about it here.
And yesterday, I dropped off a first grader.
Some things happened.
And he ran out of there a second grader.
Summer’s here, y’all.
Let’s do this.
I have a number of great shots to post about the Texas Margarita Mixer (so fun!) but first, we’ve gotta get out of here. Austin always plans its Spring Breaks to coincide with SXSW…and there are lots of good reasons for that…so we’re leaving on a jet plane. Don’t know when we’ll be back again. [...]
What a difference a day makes. Since I posted what my kitchen table looked like on Monday, I thought I’d go ahead and show you what it transformed into on Tuesday. Which is exactly why I didn’t post yesterday. (Shoot. One day in and I’m already a day behind.) Mom 2.0 Summit content is taking [...]
Today is the only day of the year that is a command. It also happens to be my mom’s birthday. Coincidence? (Happy Birthday, Mom!) It’s also a really good directive to hear. Sort of the sane person’s ‘Keep Calm and fill in the blank’ (It makes me much more calm when no one is graphic [...]
I know that I said I’d be writing about trapezing today, but I got some sad news this afternoon, and I’m just a little too blue to write about anything as joyful and throwing yourself off a high platform. My mom’s sister passed away today. It wasn’t completely unexpected…she’s 24 years older than my mother, [...]
I missed Black Friday and Small Business Saturday and Somethingwhatever Sunday and now Cyber Monday ends in about five minutes. And I’m still on like Two Weeks Ago Wednesday before Camp Mighty Friday and Thanksgiving Thursday and bloody hell, what day is it? And how the hell did it get to be 5:30 pm? Where [...]
Today’s the day. The time is now. Get out there and vote. Do you know your polling location? I just found mine on Bing Elections …you can find find news and information on where to go…and to follow the results. And play along with us today… When you vote today, send out an Instagram, Tweet & Facebook [...]
We are totally skipping school today. (Sorry, school people, if you’re reading this. We are totally skipping you today.) Because today is the first day of Austin City Limits music festival. And we have a tradition around here: We skip school for the Friday of ACL. It’s a school half day anyway because Austin schools [...]
Pinterest is so full of fun ideas regarding pumpkins, porches and other paraphernalia right now. But in this old house, I’m feeling nostalgic and normal and I’m sticking with what’s worked for like ever. Happy October!
Maybe it’s because of fashion week or the September issue of Vogue, but I’m really having the urge to get rid of all my clothes. But I don’t want to get more clothes or anything…I just want to get rid of things. The stuff is weighing me down, man. And if I haven’t worn it [...]
