37. Focus on construction (as opposed to deconstruction).

This is one of those fuzzy life goals that means something to me, but even I’m not sure what. That said, I was just reading this interview, and I think this quote sums it up…

“Since my dad died, I think a lot about what kind of life I really want for me and for my family. It’s the struggle all women face. We have all these aspirations. We want this, and we want that. We take on too many activities, too many commitments. But, really, if you can figure out how to spend time with the people you love, how to laugh, and how to take care of yourself, that’s the whole thing right there. That’s the very best part of life.” –Gwyneth Paltrow¬† (You can read the entire interview here.)

I think that makes a lot of sense.

And so I’m going to focus on those things.

I am a constructor by nature, and 2011 has been all about the challenges of building a new way of life for our family. I like it. It’s not perfect, and sometimes it gets messed up or isn’t fun but we are building it together.

Though sometimes it feels like all we are doing is constructing a tower of laundry and dirty diapers.
