The other day, Harry got a package in the mail from Vita Coco because they have a new kids line coming out. He’d wasn’t sure about the whole concept of coconut water, but the kids flavors looked cool, so he tried them and gave two thumbs up (check it out).
We’ve hit the 100 mark. We’re just one week into summer, according to the official first day of the season (of course we’ve been out of school for five weeks…), and we’ve already on day five of the 100 streak. Today we’ll hit 104.
And with all those numbers, all I’m really saying is, it’s just June, y’all. It’s just June.
He started the week with a steel cold run in with a hot steel beam.
He went back for more.
And he ended the week with one of four awards given at the Texas State Baseball Camp.
Which, as far as I’m concerned, is the best award you can get. The head coach said he was going to change the name of the award to be “The Tough Guy Award for the Guy with the Most Stitches in His Face.” Harry liked that, so he’s going to claim it.
Because if the kid’s got anything, it’s attitude.
Last night things were pretty exciting up the road at the state Capitol. Check it out. But no matter where you stand on the issues, I think we can all agree on one thing: Wendy Davis’ pink Mizano Women’s Wave Rider 16 tennis shoes are fantastic.
I know that next time I’m in the mood for a filibuster, I’ll want to have a pair of these bad boys at the ready.
This is my parents’ backyard. And this was my parents’ backyard the other day…filled with canoers rowing through on the world’s toughest canoe race.
And whenever this race happens, once a year, this is what my family does. We sit on the dock and root for the rowers. I missed this year because I was in town for BlogHer food, but my brother sent me this photo. Note the playpen on the dock. Around here, docks and babies go together like peanut butter and jelly.
Alright, we’re declaring it. It’s the Summer of the Spritzer, y’all. Get ready… and go.
Last year was the Summer of the Shandy, and that was awesome, but this year we’re swapping out the beer for wine to shake things up a little. Obviously, all the cool kids are doing it, so there’s that. But more importantly, this is a solid and welcome break from the precision of the craft cocktail trend. Tinctures measured out by the drop? Impossible-to-find small batch ingredients? It’s summer. It’s hot. Aint’ nobody got time for that.
It seems that something called Blog con Queso should have a Top Queso List…so here’s my Best Queso in Austin roundup. This list changes sometimes, but these seem to always end up on top. If you’re in Austin, and you’re craving some queso, here are my Top 5…in current order.
We are looking down on 95 days of summer vacation. 95 days. I’m letting that number sink in for a minute. Because in our house, all of the adults work. And the child does not. For 95 days. This creates an interesting challenge.
And while I’m super down with not having to wrestle a child out the door every morning before sunlight, I’m also not sure how we’re going to fill 2,375 hours. Productively. Nutritionally. Without killing each other. So right now, the wide open space of nothingness is daunting. Of course I’m into the slow days of porch swings and soccer balls and lightning bugs. At least in theory. But, on the other hand, none of us sit still very well, and well, there are things to be done.
