Identity Crisis. Angst. And Book Deals.
I'm in the self-branding and self-promotion session. Fascinating sociological meeting of the agendas. I can almost feel the anxiety of it all. Right this minute, people in the audience are getting hammered for asking how they can take their blog to the next level. Um, I think that's the point of the session.
Jen Lemen leans over to me and says "this whole thing is like trying to convince your parents you should get a bigger allowance."
Exactly.
I wish I could hear more from each person in "the audience". Surely the people behind the laptops each have interesting thoughts and insights they've accumulated through their own experiences. This blogging thing is a personal medium, after all.
Oh now a panelist just halfway yelled at this 70-year-old "new" blogger because she didn't like the way she asked her question on how she could get more readers. And sadly, I'm not kidding. This in no way is congruent with anything I've experienced so far at Blogher (which is overall a group of extremely smart and supportive individuals). I think this panel is just off. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people here would agree that if you're over 65 and here and blogging about it, then hell to the yeah, you rock. I'm going to try to find her after this and find out what her blog is. Because as far as I'm concerned, she's great and she should have more readers.
My favorite new blog I found in this session: Sneaker Blogger.

Sounds like lots of potential for mockery and good times - hurrah!
I tired sneakerblogger; the headline made no sense to me so I bolted. You will have to explain the love to me and I may try it again!
Hope you get your allowance! VERY glad you got your bags! Did you buy a new outfit?! Are you going shopping?! Try Ethel's Chocolate Lounge while you are in town...so cute and fab and I don't even like chocolate!!
PS: I went to Jenny's blog and your hair looks GREAT!
please oh please keep the Blogher updates coming! It is so quiet out here!
SZ, Thanks!!!
Likeastar, heck yeah, totally.
I want to read her blog. I'm a bit afraid of the computer myself and do not consider myself technical at all and if this woman if 65 and blogging I already know that I admire her for trying something new. I hope that I will be that brave when I am her age.
Hell yes to everything you just said.
I did not know you knew Jen Lemen. She's one of my new favorites and I never would have discovered her if it weren't for sk*rt!
Hope you're having a fabulous time! (Sounds like you are.)
Wow. Too bad the audience didn't just get up and walk out.
I'm sure the rest of your time there was awesome, though.
Sorry you didn't enjoy the session. If you didn't connect with the woman you mentioned (older blogger), her blog is Personal Growth with Corinne Edwards.

Nina, thank you so much for her name. I was kicking myself because I didn't ever find her. Thanks! Also, I really enjoy your blog and posted it on sk*rt.
That lady was a doll and they smacked her right down.
I was sitting two down from her and we were all pretty outraged.
Nice way to start the conference, eh?
Laura - thanks for the love - much appreciated.
Blackbird - "they" isn't an accurate representation of the situation. Smacking people down is not my style. Never has been. Never will be. My 75+ year-old Mom sends me YouTube clips and new technology leads and I think she - and Corrine - rock, whether they're on brand or not.
Corinne Edwards here -
Well, I just want to say that I appreciate everyone's rally on my behalf!
Actually, I was not offended at all. I think my question was about blogger etiquette and it was somehow not phrased correctly and misinterpreted. I am an old writer, but a new blogger. Got to learn "blog-speak."
Anyway, listen, we gals from New York understand straight talk. We're tough.
My blog is
http://www.personal-growth-with-corinne-edwards.com.
I invite you all to visit. At my age, I have been around the block a couple of times and I have things to say!
I am in love with blogging. And I enjoyed Blogher. I was so proud to see 800 smart women all together in one place.
And it is one job you can do until you are 102.
Think about that!
Warmly,
Corinne Edwards
oh, i have nothing to add here. just that I adore and miss you. :)
