Ode to the first day of summer. From a working stiff.
Cue the lemonade, sprinklers and fireflies because it’s finally here! Ah summer. Carefree days of swimming pools, cookouts, beach trips, parks, and lazy hazy smatterings of outdoor fun. Or. Days when it’s absolutely even more stifling to put on a business suit. Days of client presentations on summer event series concepts. With media and liquor sponsors. In a board room. Inside. Ah. Summer. Please tell me your summer days are lazier and hazier than mine.

They aren't. I put on nice pants and a good shirt, then ride 15 minutes on my bike, getting all nice and sweaty, with truck exhaust fumes in my face, before arriving at work feeling a little less soulless than I would otherwise.
Also, in 11 days I get to go to Dallas and San Francisco for vacation, so that's nice. I really can't wait.
Got any vacation plans, Queso?
Also, for those summer doldrums, I highly recommend making a pitcher of gin fizz and staking out a seat on your front porch or equivalent neighborhood-watching-sitting-area.
I went from a dozen or so classes a week in school to 40 hours a week in the office all summer. What's up with that? I'll drink to those who have lazier summers than me too.
Upcoming summer-related events:
- I wear flip-flops and tank tops every day, which my work encourages
- floating in the river this weekend, sipping icy cold beer
- Mexican food and margaritas tonight
- just came back from the beach
If only I could get a tan...sigh.
Eh, if it makes you feel any better, my kids don't finish school for another MONTH. ;)
Thank goodness for air conditioning, at least! No matter what the summer holds, none of us would survive without it!!
Well, I don't have to wear a suit, but I can work up a pretty good sweat in the garden...
Of course, I can then go into the house and crack open a Corona...
Son is out of school at the end of June, as well, to make up for the "snow days" earlier in the school year. Snow days. Ah, it all seems soooo long ago.
Mine are pretty much spent working as well, but we do try to drag out the sprinkler, kiddie pool, etc for the weekend.
Summer is lots of fun on many days, but comes with a lot of Mommy guilt on others as I try to juggle spending more time with my daughter and getting her to all of her many activities and spending any time at all on my work. But, in the end, I really love it!
things to do this summer:
get my son to walk
Blog
plan an all-out shindig for his first bday
Blog
Florida Beach trip
Blog
Lay sod and plant trees
Blog
Summer is so much more fun when you have frineds to blog iwht about it.
We've done absolutely nothing since friday, but waste time. And I'm fighting like hell to continue on.
I remember those days well. Nothing like dressing up, hopping on a plane to NYC in July and then having to take a cab in the sweltering heat around the city. Ugh!
I'm home with 3 kiddos now, so while I'm not exactly relaxing, it is nice to go to the beach, playground or just play in the yard on a nice day. But there are days I long for expense-account lunches and 'real' adult talk.
No can do, sista. But working from home in flip flops and tank tops has its advantages.
