Prison: Killer broke rules with M&M art
SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- A convicted killer who sold postcard-size paintings he created with dye from M&Ms and brushes fashioned from his hair broke prison rules by running an unauthorized business out of his cell, officials said. (Read more.)
"Not only does this guy have talent, but he's done wondrous things with what he's got."
What an incredible story.
It seems Donny Johnson became exceptionally resourceful in order to create a bit of beauty in the midst of self-inflicted tragedy, exile, and alienation. To initiate contribution in spite of confines and restrictions.
Impressive.
And yes, he did some incredibly dark things. Some incredibly unforgivable things.
But it's interesting that someone who has the capability to create such chaos and destruction also has the ability to create such beauty.
Reading his story makes me think about the choices we all have. The many opportunities and blessings we each possess. The potential to create, capture, and foster beauty...or its opposites...and the many mediums we have to do it everyday.
I wonder what we are creating. And what is confining us. What are we each doing with the resources, the time, and the talents we have? Is it beautiful? Does it inspire? I wonder.

I don't know who Danny is, but that touch on the brilliance and darkside's as interesting point. I think most of explosive, fantastical creationism is born out of deep human conflict and strife. Many artists of all genres carry and fail to maintain even inbalance. So it can be strange when the execution of something can provoke surprise and strong emotions when it's been created by a certain lunacy.
(Just so you know - I had a whole smart ass reply that completely had to be deleted. When Queso goes deep, we must go with her)
