I'm helping my son come up with an idea for the hundredth day of school. I had an idea of taking Hershey's kisses or Reese peanut butter cups and making a 100.

We are in Dallas TX and in third grade. We had to do a poster. Thinking for a 3rd grader it should have been more than 100 items on a page. Kindergarten was an awesome project.....folded posterboard in half to make a book. Inside had 100 wiggly eyes. poem on cover said... Ms. Lee, Ms. Lee what do you see? Inside says: I see 100 eyes looking at me!! Too bad we didn't stick to just stickers while we were able to do so :) Durning my searching the WWW over for 3rd grade poster I came across teachers blogs where the kids could stick 100 of something on the poster but they also had to answer in paragraph from why they chose to do what they did...

Hi, Laura. Thanks for mentioning the crayon project! I definitely did not have the 100 Day thing when I was in school. It was "celebrated" by the time my older daughter was in elementary (she's in 7th now), but it didn't seem to be as big of a deal. Our directions were to have the kids focus on counting to 100 when selecting their items and then make it a family project to find a way to "creatively" display the items. My little one naturally loves to arrange things in "rainbow order" and line things up, and she did beautifully, but I too found myself having to resist the urge to veto using certain colors or to nudge things into perfect alignment. I recently read a blog post about teachers being tempted to "fix" art work before sending it home to make it more refrigerator-worthy, so it's not just parents who wrestle with deciding where to draw the boundaries!

Anna, first-grader should be able to count 100 items. That's the point! 10 piles of 10.

You should be done with the 100 days thing as of now. We did a shirt with Nate, a poster with Jack and a baggie of cheerios with Gavin. It is fun, and we have been counting to 100 alot around here. We have done 100 bounces of the ball, jumping jacks, jumping on one foot, etc. It is fun, but I will not miss this tradition. Love the paint chip idea!

Ugh. This is why I taught teenagers. If my son has to do one of these projects, maybe I can send him to your house? :) I can't wait to see what Harry came up with for his project!

I remember celebrating 100th day in elementary, but we never did projects (at least that I can remember). I believe it was the 1/2 way point of the school year.
